Rabbi Joshua Hess

Rabbi Joshua Hess, a native of Los Angeles, CA, has served as Rabbi of Anshe Chesed since 2009. Rabbi Hess studied in Yeshiva University for one year before transferring to Ner Israel Rabbinical College in Baltimore, MD., from which he obtained his Bachelors and Masters degrees in Talmudic law and his rabbinical ordination (semicha) in 2006.

After receiving semicha, Rabbi Hess and his family moved to Denver, CO., where he served as the Rabbi of the DAT Minyan and completed his Master’s Degree in Pastoral Counseling from the Iliff School of Theology. Upon moving to the East Coast, Rabbi Hess also completed his Master’s degree from Yeshiva University’s Bernard Revel Graduate School of Jewish Studies.

During Rabbi Hess’ tenure in Linden, Anshe Chesed has seen tremendous growth with over 100 children attending our highly structured and educational youth program each Shabbos. Rabbi Hess was instrumental in building our state of the art Mikvah, modernizing our Eruv, and founding of the Vaad HaKashrus of Linden.

Rabbi Hess has been involved with numerous organizations in and around the Linden Jewish community. He has served as board member for the Jewish Federation of Greater Metro-West, Community Relations Committee (CRC), Chairman of the Central New Jersey Va’ad Harabanim, and is currently a member of the Joint Chaplaincy Committee of Greater MetroWest. Rabbi Hess has been recognized for this involvement, receiving the Rabbinic Leadership award from Jewish Family Services and the Jewish Federation.

Rabbi Hess is also a leader in Catholic-Jewish Interfaith work and has attended Emerging Leadership Conferences for Interreligious Dialogue in Connecticut, Berlin, and most recently, Vilnius.

As an AIPAC Leffell Fellowship Mentor, Rabbi Hess continues to lend his voice to and is a proud member of the Pro-Israel Advocacy movement.
